WHAT IS MEMO?

MEMO is short for Memorandum. It is usually a brief document circulated to one or more than one person to meet specific need.

  The memos are written messages exchanged by employees in the conduct of their work.

Memos are usually used for-

>> Ask for or provide information
>> Give instructions to the staff
>> Make requests
>> Make announcements
>> Seek explanation
>> Make or ask for suggestions
>> Act as remainder

Normally the language employed is a bit informal along with a tinge of politeness and courtesy.

Pattern of Memo-


  Writing a memo is a professional activity, the correct format should be used to help achieve its purpose. A memo contains the given below four parts-
1) Heading-
    It contains Name of the Organization, Date , Reference Number, Name and Designation of the Recipient, Name and Designation of the Sender, Subject.
2) Opening-
     It is a short paragraph describing the basic purpose of the memo.
3) Body-
     It contains the actual message.
4) Closing-
     The closing should usually be courteous and it states the action that the reader required to take or it may also contain summary of the main ideas discussed in the body.
